How Do You Clean A Washing Machine?

Believe it or not, most people don't know that they need to clean their washing machine, let alone how to wash it. Even though new water will flow into a washing machine and then drained out later as dirty water when a wash cycle is completed, there will always be deposits like detergent, soaked paper, hair, mold and many other dirt particles that can clog up your machine if you don't take necessary steps to maintain.

If you notice that there is an odd smell coming out from your washing machine, then it's time that you give it a good wash. The main culprits for this odd smell are usually from the trapped moisture and old detergent deposits that are stuck somewhere on the walls of the machine. Washing smelly laundry like socks on a regular basis can also affect the cleanliness of a machine and sooner or later, the smell is going worse unless you do something about it.

3 Things At Home You Can Use For Cleaning Your Washing Machine

Fortunately, it is very easy to clean a washing machine and you can do it alone without buying any special cleaning solutions. The most common item to use which you can easily find anywhere is lemon. To do this, extract one cup of lemon juice then fill the machine with enough hot water and add in the lemon juice. Run a complete wash cycle. While the hot water is dissolving all the dirt and grime that are stuck on the walls of your machine, the lemon juice will clean and remove the foul smell.

If you don't have lemon juice, you can use vinegar as a substitute though the smell of vinegar will not be as pleasant as lemon juice. To solve this problem, once the wash cycle is done and the dirty water is drained, you want to fill the machine with hot water again and run another wash cycle to remove the vinegar smell. Repeat the last step again if necessary until the sour smell of the vinegar is gone.

If you don't have vinegar too, you should at least have some baking soda. If not, go out and buy either one of the above. Baking soda has been known to be effective at removing stubborn dirt and grime. Just like cleaning a washing machine with lemon juice or vinegar, you want to fill the machine with enough hot water first. After that, add in a bag of baking soda and run a wash cycle. Be sure to pause for a few minutes now and then so that the alkaline properties of the baking soda will have enough time to neutralize the acidity of the dirt and grime thus making them easier to remove.
